We're outta here in less than two weeks. There is going to be a mass exodus from the school this year, including the director. There is an odd vibe at the school, which makes me all the more antsy to get on a plane. It is sad to be leaving Zeinab, our nanny, who has taken care of Rowan since he was a little nugget of fatness. She is really fantastic and we'll miss her.
Now we have to pack up all the belongings we've accumulated over the past three years. It is kind of intimidating. Things are getting tossed into bags and boxes left and right.
Everything must be sorted into three piles.
a)Going straight to Bamako.
b)Going home to MT with us as baggage.
c)Being given away to people who can use it.
Calley's organized a free flea market for all the local support staff at our school, which is really cool. All the foreign hire staff is bringing their second hand treasures to school to give away. These guys can really use our extra stuff and we're all glad to get rid of it. It is a win-win situation.
On top of packing our things around the house, we've got to close up shop at school. This means, packing up everything in our rooms, writing report cards, and getting things ready for the folks who will be taking over our positions at Khartoum American School. With the temperature climbing well above 100F, it is tough to get motivated. Hopefully, we'll finish strong and not be scrambling at the last minute to get everything done.
